Craig Bellamy remains unbeaten as Wales manager and the World Cup qualification campaign is up and running - but not without the odd scare.

Cardiff City manager Omer Riza called the result “exactly what we needed” and praised Callum Robinson after the Bluebirds secured a vital 2-1 victory against fellow Championship relegation battlers Derby County. The result sees Cardiff move up to 18th, four points clear of the relegation zone, now occupied by Derby. And Riza acknowledged how vital the result was to his side. “This was a really important game,” Riza said.

Callum Robinson proved once again he is the main matchwinner for Cardiff City as he returned to net two goals for the Bluebirds in their 3-0 triumph over Swansea City in the South Wales derby. Robinson missed his club’s last three games through suspension following a red card against Coventry City, but he announced his return to the team with two brilliant left-footed strikes. Added to Dimitrios Goutas’ header, it was enough to give Cardiff an emphatic victory and  riposte to those who felt this fixture has meant more to their rivals in recent years.

Cardiff’s victory was their first win by five goals in the league in seven-and-a-half years, since their victory against Rotherham in February 2017. “I’m just trying to do the best job I can,” said Riza.

Jodie Grinham and a host of other Welsh star of the Paris Parlympic Games have been honoured with a celebrations night, hosted by Disability Sport Wales. Grinham – who made headlines around the world when she became the first pregnant women to win a Paralympic medal – spoke of overcoming a difficult year before she won gold and bronze in para-archery this summer.

It may have ended as a weekend to forget for Cardiff City supporters, but Saturday began very much as a day to remember. The man held in remembrance, by fans of both Cardiff and Leeds United, was Sol Bamba, who passed away three weeks ago at the age of 39, following a battle with cancer.

Cardiff City are being linked with a move for James Rowberry as their new manager following their decision to sack Erol Bulut. Rowberry is currently working as head of elite coach education for the Football Association of Wales and was last month also appointed as one of Wales national team manager Craig Bellamy’s assistants.

A dramatic Welsh derby began with a Liam Cullen strike before Callum Robinson’s equaliser meant the points were shared at the Swansea.com Stadium. The Bluebirds were given optimism as new signing from Manchester City Alex Robertson made his first start for his new club. As for the hosts, they were boosted by the return of veteran midfielder Joe Allen to the matchday squad, for the first time since April.

Cardiff City manager Erol Bulut has asked fans to get behind his team’s new style of play as he searched for positives following a  2-0 home defeat against Sunderland in their opening match of the season. After a busy transfer window, Cardiff fans were optimistic going into the start of the new campaign, but the heavy emphasis on possession and a slower build-up was a surprise. A goal in either half by Luke O’Nien and the impressive Jack Clarke gave Sunderland a flying start and the Black Cats deserved their success after seizing their chances.

Cardiff just confirmed their fourth summer signing today, with ex-Aston Villa winger Anwar El Ghazi arriving on a free transfer. The 29-year-old joins on a yearlong deal, adding quality out wide to the Bluebirds side ahead of what is bound to be a challenging season in the Championship this year.
