To score 147 in a frame of World Championship snooker is rare, but to do it twice in the same match is new territory - as Welshman Jackson Page has discovered.

Welsh star Jackson Page etched his name into the snooker record books on Monday night after becoming the first player to make two maximum 147 breaks in a single match — a remarkable achievement that earned him a £147,000 bonus.

The 23-year-old from Ebbw Vale pulled off the historic feat during a dominant 10-2 victory over Allan Taylor in the third round of World Championship qualifying in Sheffield.

His flawless breaks came in the eighth and 12th frames of the encounter.

Page’s reward comes from a special prize fund offered across the sport’s three Triple Crown tournaments and the Saudi Arabian Masters this season, set aside for any player completing two maximums in a single event.

His tally could rise further, with an additional £15,000 up for grabs for the highest break of the tournament.

“It’s a great feeling to have my first and second on the tour but I’ve made loads in the club so it felt routine at the end,” Page said.

“I never ever go for them in a match, but after the first one planted itself I had to go for the second one. I never usually do that but I did today and it paid off.”

Page’s first 147 came late on Sunday evening, helping him establish a commanding 8-1 overnight advantage.

When play resumed on Monday, he stunned the crowd once again by repeating the perfect break — sealing the match in emphatic style.

The world number 35 is now just one win away from a return to the Crucible Theatre. He will face Joe O’Connor in Tuesday’s final qualifying round.

Speaking to BBC Five Live, Page said he was “over the moon” and noted that the sizeable prize money couldn’t have come at a better time. He recently became a father and has just purchased his first home.

Page competed at the Crucible last year but suffered a heavy 10-1 defeat to Ronnie O’Sullivan in the first round.

Elsewhere in the penultimate stage of qualifying, former world champion Stuart Bingham bowed out with a 10-6 loss to Michael Holt.

Holt will now face Zhengyi Fan of China for a place in the main draw.

Jimmy Robertson edged a tense 10-9 win over 18-year-old prospect Stan Moody to set up a clash with Matthew Selt, who cruised past Anthony Hamilton 10-3.

Meanwhile, former World Championship runners-up Ali Carter and Matthew Stevens both progressed to the final qualifying stage.

But there was disappointment for Stephen Maguire, who suffered a 10-3 defeat at the hands of China’s Gao Yang.
